RUSTY'S REVIEW OF MICK MATHER'S
CARVING GUIDE
That ever-perceptive Mick Mather - editor of the renowned
Eraser Carvers Quarterly - noticed that in my quickie
mention of his new how-to book MAKE YOUR OWN RUBBER
STAMPS ...FROM ERASERS? last 'ish I admitted that I hadn't
actually SEEN a copy of it but was recommending it anyway
on hearsay evidence. So he kindly sent one right out for my
perusal.
Worth your five bucks and then some. I counted over 75
examples of carvings including a wonderful perch by Mick,
plus a bunch of other folks whose work I know and admire
including Nancy Clark (no relation) who did that excellent
all-carved Hawaii cover for RSM a few months ago, Picasso
Gaglione, Mark Hamilton of Mark-O-Rama fame, Julie Hagan
Bloch, a cool toilet by Terry Owen, Ainslie of Mark Your
Mark in GB, Dean Bandes from Zum Gali Gali, and a couple of
past and present fish by M. B. Corbett alias Tensetendoned.
I also picked up a couple new techniques - the skip stitch
and the Rock and Roll.
The centerspread is the saga of ECQ from its near death
experience before its birth to its two-bit issue
(#25) and the love that's kept it going. Required reading
for everyone interested in doing a 'zine...
